Somerset County, New Jersey Inmate Search

An inmate search is a public tool that provides information about individuals in custody, including their name, booking date, charges, bond status, and release dates (if applicable). As of late 2024, the Somerset County Jail primarily houses individuals awaiting court hearings or those held briefly, with long-term detainees now transferred to the Morris County Correctional Facility.

Although the Somerset County Sheriff’s Corrections Division manages inmate custody and related information, it does not provide an online inmate roster. Additionally, Somerset County does not have state or federal prisons. However, the New Jersey Department of Corrections offers an Offender Search Portal for state transfers, while the Federal Bureau of Prisons provides an Inmate Locator for federal detainees.

In Somerset County, municipal police departments, such as the Bridgewater Township Police Department and Hillsborough Township Police Department, do not maintain independent inmate rosters. Arrestees are transferred to the Somerset or Morris County jail system.

How to Find an Inmate in Somerset County Jail

The Somerset County Jail generally does not house inmates overnight. Instead, staff book individuals arrested in Somerset County at the jail and then transfer them to the Morris County Correctional Facility for housing. Jail Facility Overview in Somerset County

The Somerset County Jail operates as the only adult correctional facility physically located within Somerset County. Staff use it as the primary intake, booking, and temporary holding center for all local arrests, holding inmates there while they await initial court hearings or transport.

Under a shared services agreement, Somerset County transfers most of its custodial inmates to the Morris County Correctional Facility for housing. This mid-to-maximum security facility serves as the main housing location for Somerset County adult male and female detainees, including those awaiting trial or serving sentences.

Somerset County does not operate its own juvenile detention center. Instead, the county contracts with Middlesex County to house youth ages 12 to 18 who require secure confinement, and the Somerset County Office of Youth Justice oversees those placements.

How to Send Money to an Inmate in Somerset County Jail

Since Somerset County houses most of its inmates at the Morris County Correctional Facility, individuals should make commissary deposits through the Morris County correctional system. Family and friends can use the following approved methods to add funds to an inmate’s account.

Online Deposits: The Morris County Correctional Facility processes online deposits through Access Corrections, allowing friends and family to add funds via the website or mobile app using the inmate’s name and ID with a Visa or MasterCard.

Jail Lobby Kiosk: Visitors can deposit money in person at the automated kiosk in the Morris County facility lobby from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., which accepts cash, credit, and debit cards.

Phone Deposits: Friends and family can deposit funds by calling Access Corrections at 1-866-345-1884, using an automated system or live agent, 24/7, with a credit or debit card.

Money Orders: To avoid credit card fees, friends and family can send a money order payable to the inmate, including the inmate’s full name and ID number. Money orders can be dropped off in person at the Morris County Correctional Facility (Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) or mailed to the facility’s address.

Digital deposits incur variable service fees. Facilities do not accept cash or personal checks by mail. Additionally, any inmate debts, such as medical co-pays or past balances, may be deducted from deposits before funds are added to their commissary account.

Inmate Search by Jail Facility

Somerset County has multiple facilities with different inmate search methods. The Somerset County Jail, which handles initial adult arrests, does not have an online roster. Inmate information can be requested by calling (908) 231-7150 or in person at the Jail.

The Morris County Correctional Facility, where most Somerset County inmates are transferred, has a separate inmate search system that is not available online. Inquiries can be made by calling the Correctional Facility (973) 631-5174 or in person at:

43 John Street,

Morristown,

There is no separate inmate search for the Somerset County Work Release Program. For information, contact the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division/County Jail at (908) 231-7150.

In addition to the adult facility, Somerset County does not have its own juvenile detention center, so youth are housed at the Middlesex County facility. Juvenile records are confidential and not available online. Information can be requested by a legal parent, guardian, or attorney by contacting the Somerset County Office of Youth Justice at (908) 704-6326 or the Middlesex facility at (732) 297-8991.
